I love that in eight simple, everyday words the band manages to capture one of the most fundamental truths of the human experience: time passes, regardless.

Another Story

I’m busy packing boxes and traipsing about the countryside for work at the moment, but I wanted to drop in for a quick minute and share a song I’m hung up on lately: “Another Story” by The Head And The Heart.

Here’s the official lyric music video (full lyrics below). Click on over here if the video does not appear in your RSS reader.

I’ve loved this band since they dropped their first single, Lost in my Mind, in 2011. So many of their songs tell stories, and I, of course, love that they recorded and released a song with the word “story” in the title.

The most potent lines speak incredible truth: “The sun still rises | Even with the pain.”

I love that in eight simple, everyday words the band manages to capture one of the most fundamental truths of the human experience: time passes, regardless.

Great literature seems to capture these moments in life, where people experience the most life-altering of circumstances and cannot see how time still moves forward, whether it is fact or fiction.

I’m thinking of Anne Frank being stuck in an attic during Nazi Germany, and how her diary is a record of daily life in a circumstance that most of us cannot imagine – but still time existed.

These words make me think of the novel by Anita Shreve, The Pilot’s Wife, where a woman learns of her husband’s death – and his second, secret family – as the story unravels. I can only imagine that moment when your world stops: and then every one and everything else just keeps going.

Have you ever experience a moment like this? Do you think this song captures that feeling accurately?

“Another Story”
The Head & The Heart

These are just flames
Burning in your fireplace
I hear your voice and it seems
As if it was all a dream
I wish it was all a dream

I see a world
A world turning in on itself
Are we just like
Hungry wolves howling in the night
I don’t want no music tonight

Can we go on like it once was

Every time I hear another story
Oh the poor boy lost his head
Everybody feels a little crazy
But we go on living with it
Yeah they go on living with it

These are just flames
Burning in your fireplace
I hear your voice and it seems
As if it was all a dream
I wish it was all a dream

Can we go on like it once was
Can we go on like it once was

Every time I hear another story
Oh the poor boy lost his head
Everybody feels a little crazy
But we go on living with it
Yeah they go on living with it

I’ll tell you one thing
We ain’t gonna change much
The sun still rises
Even with the pain

I’ll tell you one thing
We ain’t gonna change love
The sun still rises
Even through the rain

Can we go on like it once was
Can we go on like it once was

Everybody feels a little crazy
Like it once was
Everybody feels a little crazy
Like it once was

Can we go on like it once was
