Do you know anyone that you admire for just doing what they love?
My friend Nikita is one of those people. She run’s the Etsy Shop Kita’s Clay.
Nikita loves working with clay – it’s her passion, her thing to do to de-stress. She doesn’t make a living doing this, but for the last eight or so years, Nikita has spent her spare time doing what she loves. This has involved a financial commitment as well as a time commitment, as working with clay can involve some pretty expensive tools – not to mention the clay itself.
And she does some pretty awesome work.
In addition to committing her time and resources to this endeavor, Nikita has also committed herself to getting better at what she does through classes, but also takes the risk and experiments with new things – new shapes, new clays, new glazes.
And then she puts her work out there. Which is hard for an artist to do.
So today, on Thanksgiving, I’m thankful for my friend Nikita who creates cool things and then shares them with the world.
I got to help her photograph some of her cool things for her online shop. Here’s a few of the pieces I feel in love with while we spent some time in the makeshift studio of her living room.
Aren’t these mugs ADORABLE?
So – if you are in the market for some cool pottery for your own place, or know just the person who needs a snowflake mug for Christmas, check out Kita’s Clay on Facebook or head on over to her store on Etsy and do some easy, peasy holiday shopping. You’ll be supporting a small business, a cool craft, and an awesome person all at the same time.
Is there an artist in your life who is setting an example for others that you are thankful for? Leave their name/link to their work in the comments: I’d love to check it out!
