I could only keep up a winning streak for so long.
I was posting Monday, Wednesday, and Friday as planned – at least for a couple of weeks.
And then I got off track, as is the usual.
In fact, so usual that I am going to start calling these moments “duly distracted” moments: getting distracted as expected or predicted. There will be a hashtag (#dulydistracted). Use it when you have similar moments.
While this could be a way in which I self-shame, I am going to choose it to build a movement. Each time I get off track on my dreams, rather than wallow in self-pity and break the streak for good, I am going to choose to call it a duly distracted moment and then move on.
I am going to use these moments as a reminder: That my dream is worth the time.
Worth the time I am putting into it.
Worth the time I am “stealing” from other activities (sorry, Downton Abbey! I still love you!).
Worth the time I spend researching and learning and discovering.
Worth the time I spend making connections with other bloggers and writers around the web, and hopefully in person.
I am also going to use these moments to stop and ask myself: Is my dream still the same?
Because someday, it might not be. And, as a friend reminded me back in November, it is okay for the dream to change.
But it is not okay for me to quit on it.
A special thank you to Jessica Lawlor for the great tip about Canva – the online tool I used to create the “duly distracted” graphic. Thanks, Jess!
What is your dream today? How has it changed in recent years?

Isn’t Canva awesome?! Glad you love it, too!
