March was a FULL month, and I do not use all caps lightly. We spent two weekends on the road, one to visit the ice caves and one to visit family (five meals, five different groups of people = all good, yet exhausting).
On top of that, I went through the first two rounds of my Madison Writer’s Studio Novel Intensive Workshop, which meant turning in 75 pages of content, reading 200 pages of other people’s content, plus a short novel for the class.
While I’m disappointed I haven’t managed to keep up with my reading for The 2015 Book Project, I really shouldn’t be too surprised.
Here’s what I was supposed to read:
Classic: The Awakening by Kate Chopin
READ – Fiction: The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion – For a book club that met for the first time in March. My full review is here.
Nonfiction: Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand – I didn’t read this one, for the second month in a row. Maybe the third time is a charm?
READ – For the Soul: Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life by Anne Lamott – This was lovely and helpful and so, so quotable. A full review will be coming soon!
BONUS BOOK – Happy All the Time by Laurie Colwin – This was added to my list for the MWS class I am taking. It was a fabulous novel to read while also writing, and probably the reason that I once again did not make it through Unbroken. I can’t wait to take what I learned from Colwin and apply it to my own novel. My full review coming soon!
And here’s what I am choosing to tackle in April:
Classic: The Awakening by Kate Chopin – Trying again!
Fiction: The Name of the World by Denis Johnson – This is the second book we are reading for our writing workshop. I’ve never heard of it before, and I always find those books interesting to read with no preconceived ideas about the text.
Nonfiction: Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand – Third times a charm?!?
For the Soul: The In-Between: Embracing the Tension Between Now and the Next Big Thing by Jeff Goins
What are you planning to read in April? Have you tackled any of these before?

I totally relate to putting things on your to-read (or to-do) list and not getting to them. Sounds like you’ve done so much this month! Who cares if you even read one book. You’re rocking it!!

Thanks for the encouragement, Lindsay! Spelling it all out like this for myself keeps from feeling like I’m “behind” – keeps things in perspective. :)

Ah, I’ve heard so much good about Bird by Bird – need to read that one soon. Interested to hear what you think about The In-Between – I started it a few months ago and never finished it (probably because I have it on my iPad and just never think to use that to read).

I’ll let you know, Erika! I also forget to read on my iPad most of the time… oops.
I did a full review of Bird by Bird here if you want a preview of what you are in for: http://www.inkwellsandimages.com/2015/04/07/story-in-review-bird-by-bird-by-anne-lamott/
