On Sheep & Social Media

The joys of the internet are many. You can be sitting in a truck in Utah with nothing but an internet connection and be connected with someone in Quebec at a library.

Or, if you are me, you are a literature buff in Wisconsin asked by a wool and knit expert in Seattle to help her readers connect with social media.

The readers at Zanzibar are wool farmers, pattern designers, and dyers. Their product is unique and lovely, but targeted at a very specific individual. Their niche market needs to have a visual and click-able presence on the web, but many of them are having a hard time getting a start. I’m hoping that my guest blog today at Zanzibar on Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram can help them connect with the people that need to hear (and see!) their message.

Don’t be Dyed in the Wool: Get Social

My grandfather farmed quite literally until the day he died. That’s where his heart was: out in his fields, with his crops and his animals. If he had lived into the 2000s, I am quite sure he would have decided that social media was for the birds and that no farmer in his or her right mind would waste any time at all on a computer when they could be spending those precious hours out on a tractor.

And he would have been wrong.

What my grandpa probably would not have realized is that social media is one way for small farmers today to make more of an impact than ever before with their product and their expertise. Never before has our society been so willing to to express brand loyalty in such a public and effortless manner as interacting with companies on social media …
