What I Learned in December

Emily Freeman is a one of my favorite writers and bloggers. For the past few months she has hosted a “What I Learned” link up at the end of every month to reflect on the truly profound – and just plain fun – things that she has learned in the last thirty days. For the first time, I am joining her in this, just in time for the last month of 2013. Without further adieu, here is what I learned in December:

1.) Idina Menzel AND Kristen Bell are in the same Disney movie. How much awesome is that? Also, Disney princess movies just seem to get better and better.

2.) What my ideal Christmas looks like this year. And that it may be different next year and the year after that. And that is okay.

3.) I cannot seem to create a schedule for my life no matter how hard I try. I make plans and attempt to execute and something always comes up that knocks me off track. Any suggestions for improvement?

4.) If I just do the dishes everyday, I am happier. It’s so simple, yet so profound.

5.) I want to write. I just do. It’s scary to say out loud, but easier to, well . . . .write. Surprise, huh?

6.) I have realized that I adore being home and I adore traveling. They seem like they shouldn’t go hand in hand, but they do. The more I travel, the more I learn that I love coming home. The more I am home, the more I know in my soul that I need to travel.

7.) Paying off your student loans is one of the greatest feelings in the whole world.

8.) Making choices is hard. Not making choices is even harder.

What did you learn in December?

  1. Congratulations on paying off your student loan! What a great feeling! Stopping by from Emily’s place! Happy (debt free) New Year!

    1. Thanks, Diane! It was an amazing feeling. Now onto the car loan . . . Happy New Year to you, too – and thanks for stopping by.

  2. I sat during “Frozen” and thought, “Wow, this reminds me so much of ‘Wicked’.” It wasn’t until later in the week I found out WHY!

We loved it! And we are still singing all the songs!

    And #7 – Yeah!!!

    1. I thought it was great that they chose one traditional broadway performer and one traditional actor for the two sisters. It just made their personalities “pop” through their singing. Thanks for stopping by, Stacey!

  3. I love your perspective on traveling and being at home. I’ll be doing much more traveling this year and have been a little nervous about it since I do love being at home. To hear your wisdom has brought some peace as I prepare. Thank you. And…I love #8. So true. I also might need to consult your site again as I’m delving into photography this coming year. I spoke about it on my “What I Learned” list. Another thing I’m feeling unprepared for. :) Enjoyed your post.

    1. Hi, Lisa! Thanks for stopping by! I hope that all your travel is wonderful and fulfilling this year. When I travel for work, I find that using Evernote (http://evernote.com/) is my lifeline. You enter all your travel plans, flight numbers, hotel reservations, and more into it, and then you have them all in digital format everywhere you go. I also keep a master packing list in there, so I can look at one list every time and everything that I need! Let me know if you need help getting started – it’s such a handy tool for so much of life!

As for photography – the best advice I can give you is just to get out there and start taking photos! I plan to post some resources up here as the year goes, so check back. :)

  4. # 7 is AWESOME! Happy for you. I haven’t seen Frozen yet, but your description of it makes me want to run to the theater because I loved “Wicked.”

    1. Thanks, Lyli! It is a GREAT feeling!
“Frozen” is amazing. I’m writing an entire review about it soon – so check back in a couple of days!

  5. Great list!!! #4 and 8- yes and yes!!!!

Just clicked over from Emily’s blog and after reading had to say, hi! :))

    1. Thanks for taking the time to comment, Amber! I’m really glad that I am not the only one that feels that way about the dishes … they are just always there!
