What do Antique Sleighs and Church Foyers have in Common?

These pictures!

The church I attend – Memorial Baptist Church – is nestled directly in the heart of the community of Verona, WI. It’s a lovely community that still centers around a good old fashioned Main Street, and I for one am thankful that our church sits where it does, next to the perfect coffee shop and across the street from the best grocery store in the world.

The church decided to offer a free photo shoot as part of the weekend of holiday happenings for local businesses, so one church member brought in an antique sleigh and created a backdrop of evergreens and branches. There was even “snow” scattered about the base of the sleigh to create a bit of winter wonderland right inside the church foyer.

Another church member (and gifted photographer) and I were on hand Friday and Saturday to snap photos of families as they came through the door. We also took photos on Sunday after the service for church members, too.

It was a great way to get to know a few new members of the community – and to get to know a few families in our church a little better, too.

One family in our church was a bit difficult to pose. Mom and Dad plus three grown kids and three little ones proved to be a bit more than the sleigh had room for. We tried a couple, but even after I went home to process the photos, I was not happy.

I decided to see if they were willing to try again on the next Sunday when we would have more time and less people waiting in line, and they said “yes.” I spent the week brainstorming how best to sit them so that they weren’t so “smushed” together. I think the second attempt yielded a much better result.

These smiles were definitely worth the time it took for a second effort.
