Quick recap: Jon Acuff introduced the #EmptyShelf challenge in December. It’s pretty basic: starting December 23rd, you empty one shelf of a bookcase in your house completely. Then, through the entire next year, you fill that shelf with the books that you read.
I was a book-reading machine the last week of 2013.
In 2014, since activity at the day job is back in full swing, I haven’t been able to read as much as I would like.
My goal is still to read more nonfiction this year than I have in years past, and it is going well.
The shelf as of January 31st, 2014:
In January, I read:
5.) Quitter: Closing the Gap Between Your Day Job & Your Dream Job by Jon Acuff
6.) Platform: Get Noticed in a Noisy World by Michale Hyatt
7.) Allegiant (Divergent Series) by Veronica Roth
8.) The Fault in Our Stars (reread) by John Green
9.) Vertical Church: What Every Heart Longs for. What Every Church Can Be. by James McDonald
Every single one of these books was great – It was a good reading month. Quitter and Platform offered actionable advice that is really relevant for me as I am launching this blog and dreaming of a day-job free life. Allegiant and The Fault in our Stars are the brain children of two of the best YA writers out there today. And Vertical Church was a reminder and a conviction and a reassurance all at once.
So far, I am reading more nonfiction like I had wanted to in 2014, and I think it is because my choices are on display for the world to see. So I am making better choices. :)
What are you reading in 2014?
